My weekend didn’t go too great. I had a major
business bombshell dropped on me on Friday afternoon as I was
rigging up the RV to head out. This totally took my head out
of racing. Saturday was pathetic, I didn’t manage anything better
than a 1:20 flat. I placed 7th in both the middle weight and heavy
weight solo’s. I sorted out part of the mess
that evening in order to get that shit out of my head and I managed
to feel a little better for Sunday.
Sunday in practice I felt good. I was keeping up with some real fast
guys in practice. Guys capable of 1:16’s. We were doing 1:19’s in
practice. I was still having issues with my bike going into false
neutral and then freewheeling in to the corner. And it would stall
immediately when this happened. I was able to fire it up in practice
and keep going. It wasn’t the electrical issue anymore. Now it was
transmission. First race was HWT SB and I was in 2nd place with 2
laps to go when the bike went into false neutral at T3 and stalled.
It took me 10+ seconds to get it restarted and I got passed and put
into 3rd. I fired the bike up and within 1.5 laps I caught the guy
and held onto 2nd. Second race was 750 superbike. I was in a solid
5th doing 1:18’s within sight of the leaders when the bike cut out
going into T1 on the very last lap. I couldn’t get it fired up this
time. I rode the truck back to the pits. After the bike cooled down
a bit, I tried restarting it and that’s when I heard clanking in the
motor. I shut it off immediately. I’m thinking maybe that some part
that makes up the shift linkage came loose and is wondering around
inside the motor. I hope it hasn’t done too much damage. I guess I’m
taking a premature trip to Atlanta. Or I may pull the side cover
off. I have no idea.
