This particular weekend is always a bonus for me when the national
series comes to Summit Point. I came here with two bikes but only
left with one. I said goodbye to the GSXR 600. I sold it to some
one who is looking to get back into racing. This also clears the
stable for the race bike(s) that I will be running next year. It's
time to step up to some modern equipment.
First race was Heavy weight Twins Superstock against Vesrah's
Tray Batey. Batey had just set the track record a few races prior
so I knew I wouldn't be able to hang. He started on Pole and I
started in last. I got a great start and moved right up beside
Batey. When we hit the brakes to go into Turn 1, I couldn't believe
the wild line that he was taking. He just had so much confidence
in the front end of his bike. It was a line that I had never taken
and don't know that I could. Within a couple of corners he started
to pull away and put some distance between us. By lap 4, I saw that
I was catching him? I couldn't believe it. I didn't know what was
going on. When we were coming into Turn 9, I saw him reach down
for his shifter and mess with it. That's when I realized he had
some sort of mechanical issue. I went past him on the straighaway
and rode really hard. I knew he was quick enough that if he fixed
the bike quickly, he could come right after me. I looked back a
few times and never saw him. I took the checkered flag and won by
30 seconds over 2nd place Scott Rosey.
I was very happy with the result. I couldn't believe what had just
happenned. I totally thought I would be fighting for second place.
Instead, I take the win. Awesome. Now it's time to prepare for
Nelson Ledges in 2 weeks. I'll keep you all posted.
