Just got back from Summit Point for the first of many rounds that
will be held here. First time there on the
848 and on the new surface. Practice went pretty good and I was
looking forward to a good race. I was
gridded in the 2nd wave for the middleweight
solo. I got a great start and was all over the riders in the 1st
wave by turn 3. I slowly picked off my way
to 4th place. Then I was passed by James Vanderhaar and I hung with
him for a few laps until my tire started
to go away. I no longer had the
drive coming out of turn 9 and I had to
back off of him. Also coming up behind me
James Rispoli and we swapped positions a few times
on the last lap but my foot slipped off the peg under braking into
turn 5 and he got back by me. I was
pretty stoked to get into the 17's in the solo on Saturday. That's
less than 1 second. Off what I was doing
on the 998 with 20 more hp. It
was nice to have beat my nearest Ducati competitor
by 10 seconds in that race too.
Sunday was a mess. It was raining cats and dogs.
Puddles and sealer everywhere.
Hydroplaining on two wheels isn't
fun. I got 5th in 600 superbike starting
from the 2nd wave so I felt good about
that results because the leaders were a couple of big name guys.
I got 2nd in 750 superbike. I could've won but
didn't push it because the race I had a chance to
win money in was next.
Then for Heavyweight twins superbike, they heard thunder as we were
waiting for third call and they kept us in
our wet 60lb leather suits for another 20 minutes waiting. I was
shiverring. Then when we finally got up to
the grid, there were only 6 bikes so
Ducati wasn't going to be paying. That
took the last bit of warmth out of me. I got the
holeshot from the 3rd row and led Arnie most of the race. I
had 2 huge near highsides soming out of
T9. Arnie drafted
me on the straight away and.
we swapped for the lead a few times. Eventually
I just sat behind him as I was almost getting
pitched off the bike in places he was not. The
difference between 1st and 2nd was minimal in
contingency. At post race
tech he showed me he had put on a different rear rain tire that
worked much better than the previous one he was
using which is the one I used all day. He
used a rain tire that had grooves all the way to the edge
and that seemed to give some side grip. Anyways,
we survived the terential down pours and the bike
is in one piece so it was a good weekend.
