We kicked off the
new year in style. New Bikes, new class, and new sponsors.
After picking up both of the bikes where they had been rebuilt
from the crank up, we headed to Homestead Miami to test them out.
It was nice to go somewhere warm when it's freezing in Maryland.
Turns out it was the coldest I had ever experienced Florida.
Saturday was just a
practice day. I spent the majority of it turning laps and
making adjustments to the bike's suspensions and ergonomics.
Both of the bikes felt fast. Especially the Ducati which is
now pushing 144 HP at the rear wheel thanks to Mark Sutton at
Ducshop. Handling all
that power was not as difficult as I had imagined. Don't get
me wrong, I felt like I was riding a bull. In Saturday's
practices, I managed to improve my lap times from the mid 1:34's
to the low 1:33's. I can't wait to really learn to use this
horsepower.
Sunday were the
races. I didn't come in expecting to win anything. I
just wanted to practice. It turns out a win was in my
future. I was grided on Poll for the SuperTwins race.
There were some really trick bikes gridded with me so I thought I
was going to have my hands full. I launched off the line
really well and went into turn one in first place. I did not
want to look back to see where everybody else was. I could
hear them but only for a few more turns. Eventually I looked
back and saw nobody. I slowed my pace down a little for the
last 2 laps and won by almost 20 seconds. I was stoked.
First win as an expert. What a great feeling. I won a
huge trophy which you can see in the picture
gallery.
In the 600 races the competition was AMA quality and it was tough
to finish in the top 10. I'll get there.
Next round is on
March 12th & 13th at VIR. I want to thank all of my sponsors
that are continuing to help me into 2006 and I'd also like to
thank the ones that have decided to partner up with us.
BR-111, Maximum Hardwood Floors, Sienna Motors, Sobre Rodas, Tiola
Pavers, Genesis Accounting, Om-Air Conditioning Service, and EBC
Brakes.
A special thanks to
Mark Sutton at Ducshop for the awesome bike he built and to KWS
Motorsports for the awesome 600 that they built for me.
Until next time,
